How to Farm

An introductory course on how to run a farm, croft or smallholding enterprise

3.5 years ago we had no money, a debt, no farming experience and no business experience.

Today we run a multi-award winning rural enterprise on 150acres based on the following principles and practices:

  • Regenerative agriculture and holistic management

  • Diversification

  • High animal welfare

  • Farming with nature

  • Running a viable business

We want to tell you how, show you how and help you find your how.

The Opportunity

We are offering 2 x 4.5 day courses in 2020 where we will spill the beans on the Lynbreck success story. This is the course we wanted to exist when we worked on the edge of London and dreamed of living off the land.

The course is suitable for

  • Existing farmers

  • Aspiring farmers

  • New entrant farmers

  • Smallholders

  • Dreamers

  • Anyone interested in food

  • Anyone interested in nature

* It would also be suitable for professionals CPD working within farming/crofting/smallholding who would like to understand more about the opportunities and challenges in running a farm business to improve their advisory role.

We want this week to inspire you, to give you practical knowledge and to reconnect you with the relationship between land, food and farming. We also want it to give you the tools to start your own regenerative farm business. Here’s a proposed draft timetable:

What do you get?

We offer free camping for the duration of the course. Facilities provided include a compost loo and an outdoor bush shower. If you prefer to stay in local accommodation, we can provide some recommendations.

The course is fully catered. We are a working farm producing meat, vegetables, eggs and honey. We are unable to cater for specific dietary choices or needs.

Where we are

We are located just 10 minutes from Grantown on Spey, 25 minutes from Aviemore and 55 minutes from Inverness.
